* IPT Online Master's Degree Program

History: In addition to the traditional on-campus mode of delivering courses, the IPT department has been in the forefront of Internet-delivered education by offering its internationally recognized degree program online since 1989. Students can earn a Master's degree in IPT by taking IPT courses entirely online. Online courses also make it possible for students who are relocated before finishing the on-campus program to complete the IPT degree from their new location.

Accreditation: The on-campus and online options are fully accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Delivery Method: Online classes are conducted through asynchronous computer conferencing using Lotus Notes course databases (DBs), which is also available through its web version.

Why Lotus Notes? We have chosen Lotus Notes as our online instructional delivery medium for many reasons. Particularly,

  1. Using Lotus Notes, students can work on their course work offline after they receive it from the server. Using its web version, they can also have access to their course databases from anywhere in the world. These off-line and online options are especially helpful to full time professionals who need flexibility in time (within any given week) and location.
  2. Unlike other web-based course management systems, Lotus Notes allows students as well as instructors to use various word-processing and multimedia features.
  3. Students can keep a complete copy of each course DB on their computer for future reference.

For more information about the IPT course DB, see this article titled, Using a Homegrown Courseroom System with Off-Line, Multimedia Capabilities Designed with Lotus Notes.

Engineering & Technology BuildingTheory into Practice: The IPT master's degree program emphasizes both the scholarly understanding of research and theory as well as the practical application of instructional technology and human performance technology. Human performance improvement in organizations requires more than just education and/or training. IPT students learn the skills and knowledge, as well as explore the factors, that affect job performance:

    instructional systems design
    performance consulting
    computer-based training
    media selection/utilization
    program development and evaluation
    project management
    needs assessment
    job analysis and design
    feedback systems
    job aids and EPSSs
    web design and e-learning
    tools and resources

Quality: The online option uses the same admission standards and required courses as the on-campus option. Evaluations show that students in the online course are enthusiastic about the rigor and value of the academic experience they receive. Many have reported that these courses have substantially increased their capability and credibility in the workplace. See IPT graduates' testimonials.

Student Accomplishments: IPT students are accomplishing numerous academic and professional accomplishments largely as a result of their learning from the IPT program. See IPT students' accomplishments.

Cost: The online courses are entirely self-supporting and are not subsidized by state taxes. Therefore, the online course fee is different from the on-campus course fee. A discounted rate is available for Idaho residents.
