Dr. Van Tiem was Human Resource Director at Ameritech (now AT&T) Yellow Pages for Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconsin; Curriculum Manager General Motors Technical Training (North America) including GM suppliers. She is also the lead author of two best-selling award-winning International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) books: Fundamentals of Performance Technology, second edition (2001) and Performance Improvement Interventions (2001).

Dr. Van Tiem serves on the ISPI Board of Directors and was also recognized by the American Society of Training & Development (ASTD) as National Technical Trainer of the Year (1992) and ASTD's National Excellence in Leadership Award (1993). She has presented at approximately 75 international and state conference and chapter meetings for ISPI, ASTD, Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD), and American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE), Human Resource Association (HRA), and National Association for Developmental Education (NADE).
