Educational Background:
Dr. David Barnes received his Master of Science degree in Instructional &
Performance Technology from Boise State University. He holds a Ph.D.
from the University of Idaho in Education with an emphasis in Adult
Education and Human Resource Development. David also earned a Master
of Divinity in Honors at Emmanuel School of Religion and a Bachelor of
Science at Northwest Christian College.
Professional Experience:
During his 37-year career, Dr. Barnes has functioned in a wide variety of
roles. David is currently the substance use disorders epidemiologist
in the Division of Behavioral Health for the State of Idaho. He also
directs the data unit and serves as a research analyst supervisor.
Previously, David has spent a number of years in data processing as a
programmer, programmer/analyst, group leader, and information technology
trainer. He has work experience as a senior organization development
consultant, training manager, and online learning specialist.
In 2008, Dr. Barnes was a member of a team that received
both the International Society for Performance Improvement
(ISPI) Award of Excellence, as well as the American Society
for Training and Development (ASTD) Excellence in Practice
award.
Teaching:
As an IPT adjunct faculty member, he has taught IPT536 Foundations of
Instructional & Performance Technology.
In addition, David has taught a number of research and
qualitative decision-making courses at the University of
Phoenix and has served as the chair of quantitative studies
at that institution.
