Educational Background:

Chris Slater received his Ed.D. in Adult Education and Staff Development from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA and his M.S. in Instructional & Performance Technology from Boise State University.  He earned his B.A. in Social Science with a major in Psychology and minor in Human Development from Washington State University, Pullman.

Professional Experience:

In addition to adjunct professor duties, Dr. Slater works full-time as the Advanced Distributed Learning Coordinator for the United States Coast Guard in Washington, D.C.  In this role, he manages general mandated training and e-learning/EPSS projects.  Prior to this position, he spent time with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Talent Development Team as a senior instructional designer and with the U.S. Coast Guard as an instructional systems specialist, instructional multimedia developer, instructor, and enlisted flight crewman on the HH-65 helicopter.

Dr. Slater's research interests focus on the testing and integration of adult cognitive curiosity to enhance workplace learning and performance. He has presented his research and presented at national and international conferences, including the annual meetings of the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education, International Self-Directed Learning Symposium, and the Coast Guard Human Performance Technology workshop.

In addition to his academic career, Dr. Slater has also worked in consulting roles as a graphic artist, instructional designer, web designer, and educational consultant.
