He has also taught at the University of Tennessee.

Professional Experience:

Dr. Ripley has over 25 years experience as a Human Resource Manager and Consultant. He holds professional certifications from the Society of Human Resource Management (SPHR) and was named a fellow of the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand (FHRINZ).

Scholarly, Creative or Research Activities: Vita

His primary research focus is in the general area of performance improvement and management. He recently led a 7-country cross-national research project involving 14 scholars studying employee perceptions of factors in the work environment that prior research has shown impact performance. Another area of particular interest to Dr. Ripley is strategic human resource planning.

He is also concerned about the need to increase the amount of critical thinking and reflection that occurs in academic settings and in management development programs in organizations. He developed a process ("R9") for this purpose that can be used totally on-line or in conjunction with classroom work. Articles on this process have appeared in the International Journal of Vocational Education and Training.

He has presented a number of papers at national and international conferences and also has a significant number of publications. With Dr. Peter Dean, he was co-editor of ISPI’s 4-volume Performance Improvement Series, including Performance Improvement Pathfinders. He is a member of several academic and professional societies and has served on the editorial and advisory boards of various journals, including Performance Improvement Quarterly and Human Resources Development International.
