Directions on How to
Create a Local Replica of Course DBs
For Lotus Notes Release 5 Users |
- Please print out this webpage and refer to it as you follow the directions presented below.
- Estimated time to complete the directions (it depends on the Internet connection speed) - With a 28.8 modem speed, it will take about 5 minutes to create a replica of a course database.
Follow the directions described in this document to create a local replica (copy) of your course database on your computer. Use the same direction to create a replica of BSU Campus DB. The screen shots used in this document were taken on a PC Windows platform. Although Macintosh users will see slightly different appearance on the screen (mostly the colors), they can follow the same directions presented in this document.
1. Connect your computer to the Internet.
2. Launch Lotus Notes. Enter your password and click OK.
3. Click the 'Window Workspace' SmartIcon to go to the Workspace.
You will have the Workspace on the screen. Do not click any of the database icons. If one of the database icons appears to be pushed down, click outside of the icon to deselect it.
4. From the menubar, select File - -> Replication - -> New Replica... The 'Choose Database' window will appear.
(1) Click the drop-down arrow of the server box
(2) Select ipt/BSU.
5. The selected server type is ipt/BSU.
(1) Select the course DB title and (2) Click the Select button (Very Important: You must click the Select button. Do not click the Open button).
6. A window will appear.
(1) Click the radio button in front of 'Immediately.'
(2) Click the checkbox in front of 'Create full text index for searching.'
(3) Click OK. It will immediately start creating a replica of the database. The database's icon will appear on the workspace.
7. Go to the Replicator. You will see the replication blue bar that indicates that replication is in progress.
After replication has been completed, the progress bar will show the idle icon.
8. Click the Workspace button to go back to the Workspace. Locate the course database icon that you created. You should see 'on Local' in the title of the database icon. e.g.,
If you see 'on ipt' in the course database title, you must contact Ron Grames (rgrames@boisestate.edu) for assistance (NOTE - Your Mail database icon and BSU's Address Book database icon may be on ipt - That's OK).
9. In order to enter your course database, double-click the course database icon on the workspace.
In the navigation pane, students see three course views (the All Documents view, the By Author view, and the By Date view) and instructors have an additional view called Instructor's View in their course DB. Everyone has a private My Favorites folder.
The last item BSU Campus is a public folder that has a collection of BSU Campus database views and links to other BSU websites. You must have a replica of the BSU Campus DB in your computer. If you have not created a replica of the BSU Campus DB yet, please do so by following the directions presented on this webpage - http://ipt.boisestate.edu/main/createR5BSUCampus.htm. If you have created a replica of the BSU Campus DB in a previous semester, you do not need to create it again.
If the Execution Security Alert window appears on your screen, click 'Trust Signer.'
