
Creating a Local Replica of Your Course Database (Both PC Windows and Macintosh platforms) - For R4.6 Users
- Please print out this webpage and refer to it as you follow the directions presented below.
- Estimated time to complete the directions (it depends on the Internet connection speed) - With a 28.8 modem speed, it will take about 5 minutes to create a replica of a course database.
Follow the directions described in this document to create a local replica (copy) of your course database in your computer. The screen shots used in this document were taken on a PC Windows platform. Although Macintosh users will see slightly different appearance on the screen (mostly the colors), they should follow the same directions presented in this document.
1. Connect your computer to the Internet. Launch Lotus Notes.
2. You will have the Workspace on the screen. e.g.,
Do not click any of the database icons. If one of the database icons appears to be pushed down, click outside of the icon to deselect it.
3. From the menubar, select File - -> Replication - -> New replica... (Type in your password if asked). The Choose Database dialog window will appear.
(1) Click the drop-down arrow of the server box
(2) Select ipt/BSU.
4. The selected server type is ipt/BSU.
(1) Select the course DB title and (2) Click the Select button (Very Important: You must click the Select button. Do not click the Open button).
5. A window will appear.
(1) Click the radio button in front of 'Immediately.'
(2) Click the checkbox in front of 'Create full text index for searching.'
(3) Click OK. It will immediately start creating a replica of the database. The database's icon will appear on the workspace.
6. Go to the Replicator page. You will see the replication blue bar that indicates that replication is in progress.
After replication has been completed, the progress bar will show the idle icon.
7. Go back to the Workspace. Locate the course database icon that you created. You should see 'on Local' in the title of the database icon. e.g.
(NOTE - Your mail database icon and BSU's Address Book database icon may be on ipt - That's OK).
8. In order to enter your course database, double-click the course database icon on the workspace. In the navigation panel, students will find three views (All documents, By Author, and By Date) and instructors will have an additional view (Instructor's view). Everyone will have a private folder (My Favorites).
