General Information - Costs

The IPT on-campus course tuition/fees and the IPT online course fees are differently calculated. Your actual costs depend on how many classes you take, the type of classes you take, and your status as a resident or nonresident student.

On-Campus Courses

To calculate your tuition and fees, BSU has established that eight credits or more per semester constitute full-time enrollment and you are required to pay the full tuition and fees shown in the table below:

Full Graduate Tuition and Fees, Per Semester (8 credits or more)
Tuition and Fees Idaho Resident Non Idaho resident
Tuition $0 $4,084.00
Institutional Fees* $3,250.00 $3,250.00
Total (for up to 19 credits) $3,250.00 $7,334.00
Overload Fee** $227.00 per credit hour $227.00 per credit hour
* Includes $630 per semester Health Insurance fee that may be waived with proof of other insurance.
** An overload fee is imposed if you register for more than 19 credits. The overload fee for each credit over 19 is $227.00.

Although 8 credits is considered full time for fee paying purposes, you must enroll for 9 graduate credits or more to be eligible for full financial aid.

Although 8 credits is considered full time for fee paying purposes, you must enroll for 9 credits or more to be eligible for full financial aid.

If you enroll for fewer than 8 credits, your fees are calculated according to the schedule shown in the table below.

Partial Graduate Fees, Per Semester (less than 8 credits):
Part-time Fees $272.00 per credit hour
Summer (2007) $249.00 per credit hour
Application Processing Fee $55 One-time; nonrefundable
Overload Fee $227.00 per credit hour beyond 19 hours; nonrefundable

Tuition, fees, and other charges are subject to change at any time by the Idaho State Board of Education, acting as the Board of Trustees for Boise State University.

Distance Education Online Courses

IPT online course fees are calculated based on the number of credit hours as shown in the table below.  The fees listed below will be in effect starting with the fall 2007 semester.

Idaho Residents Non-Idaho Resident
$345.00 per credit hour
(e.g., one 3-credit course: $1,035.00; one 4-credit course: $1,380.00)

*Active U.S. military personnel are qualified as Idaho residents and therefore pay the Idaho resident fee of $345 per credit.

$415.00 per credit hour
(e.g., one 3-credit course: $1245.00; one 4-credit course: $1,660.00)

Fees for the courses taken through the Instructional & Performance Technology distance program are comparable to, or lower than, those of other distance programs throughout the country.

* When you apply for admission to BSU, you pay a one-time, non-refundable fee for processing your application. The Graduate Application for Admission fee is $55.

* Students pay separately for books and other course materials. The fees for audited courses are the same as for courses taken for credit.

* For individuals who are unable to take advantage of the tuition assistance programs provided by many employers, Boise State University can assist in obtaining financial aid or scholarships for those who qualify.

* Students are responsible for knowing and adhering to all fee payment deadlines specified in the current academic calendar. Printed statements are not mailed to students. Instead, you may access your student account, including amounts and due dates, via BroncoWeb. You may pay with cash, check,, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. Failure to make payment by the specified due date will result in an assessment of a $50.00 penalty fee.

* Review the BSU Graduate Catalog, Financial Aid for Graduate Students.
