Now you have started the IPT master's
degree program and need to complete a total of 36 credits to
earn the degree. How long would it take
to finish the IPT master's degree program?
It depends on how many
credits you earn each semester and how successful you are in
your classes. Keep in mind that graduate coursework requires
a lot of time and energy on your part. Remember the "credit
x 3 hrs per wk" rule of thumb; that is, you are expected to
spend 3 hours for each credit you earn, each week. For
example, if you are taking a 4 credit class, you are
expected to spend about 12 hours per week, in order to
successfully complete the course requirements (completing
reading assignments, attending class, completing homework
assignments, etc.).
Discuss with your
academic advisor
about an appropriate timeframe to complete your degree. You’ll want to maintain a balance
between school, family, and job without putting an
unnecessary strain on any aspect of your life. It can be a
difficult balancing act sometimes.
Full-Time Students
Full-time students (taking 9+ credits during
a semester) would be able complete the IPT master's degree
program within 2 years.
Part-Time Students
Part-time students would be able to complete the IPT
master's degree in 3-4
years. Below
are several possible paths to graduation. The examples assume that:
- you start the program in a fall semester (an
academic year includes fall, spring and summer)
- you are going to take a summer class
as well
- you are going to choose the nonthesis option (comprehensive oral exam).
[1] If you take two
classes (5-8 credits) during regular semesters and one course (3 credits)
during the summer, you will be able to graduate within 3 years: e.g.,

you take one class (3-4 credits) at a time, you will be able to graduate
in 4 years: e.g.,
